Firstly, it features a more open mesh construction for breathability, as well as fewer overlays for improved comfort, and has more of a modest upper compared to the striped one on the 18.

A dual-layered Solyte midsole and less overlays on the upper sheds weight and increases flexibility without compromising breathability. The shoe still incorporates the ASICS' I.G.S. (Impact Guidance system), a design philosophy in which the individual components of the shoe work together to produce a more comfortable step and an improved gait. In addition to Dynamic Duomax support for a smoother ride, the rearfoot and forefoot GEL cushioning system places a silicone-based material in critical areas of the sole to dampen shock, allowing for a smooth movement through the step and reducing the risk of injury.

The essential and clever Biomorphic Fit Upper incorporates stretchy material strategically placed on the upper, which reduces bunching when the shoes move, reducing the risk of blisters and irritation. This works alongside the Asymmetrical Lacing Design which follows the natural curve of the foot and Discrete Eyelets, where independently-placed eyelets ensure the laces pass through the upper which disburse lace tension, both of which improve fit and reduce potential for irritation.
